I love design because its free, open, expressive, contained, masculine, feminine, outspoken, contained, minimal, stylish, progressive, classic, unique and creative, trendy, hip, simple, effective, communicative, masterful, immature, large, elegant, artistic, fluctuating, constructive, attractive, energetic and structured all at the same time.

Design builds brands, creates beautiful and functional products, gorgeous buildings, magnificent landscapes and sports cars that little boys and grown ups dream about. Design is expansive and it's principles can be utilized in almost any industry, or creative situation around the world. The principals are universal.

So isn't art all those things as well? Can't we just replace the word design with art? Art is such a loose term that is given to anything that makes someone feel something, which is usually positive feelings. I don't feel design is art because it is more defined than art. Design has many purposes and art is more about self expression.

I love art, and I love design, but I love design more. I love it more because it communicates and improves business, life and various situations around the globe. Thats not to say that art can't do, or hasn't done, the same thing. For art to do the same thing it needs some assistance from design. Art is used in design to communicate a message, feeling, meaning and purpose. Art is not strong enough alone to accomplish what it can with the help of design.

Art has the potential for greatness. It can enhance and communicate, but only if it's integrated with design. Even if an artist isn't conscious of it, they are using principals of design to make their art.
