Web based project management software for freelancers and small businesses

Are you a project manager, web designer, small business owner or just looking for a good solution to keep track of your projects? Well, I have some suggestions that you can try out. Here is a list of web based project management solutions that I have had some experience with. A few are free and other you have to pay for but they at least start you off with a 30 day free trial.

TeamworkPM

At the top of my list is TeamworkPM which has a lot of the same features as Baecamp, but little better pricing structure. They do not offer life time tracking but they are working on it. You have to manually enter in time for projects and tasks, but other than that you can give clients access to different areas of the project, have multiple users, get project reports and much more. Awesome web based solution that has great customer support and they are constantly improving the system. http://www.teamworkpm.net/

Basecamp

Developed by 37Signals this is the most popular web based project management software being used today. It carries a ton of features with it plus there are a lot of applications that integrate into Basecamp, or Basecamp integrates with other software which allows you to expand it's capabilities. There are also add-ons for iPhone that make this software easier to use on the go and of course OSX widgets. http://www.basecamphq.com/

Creative Office Pro

The first option is a free one. I found it not as intuitive as the other options that are out there, but for a free solution it gives you project tools, time tracking, a nice dashboard that gives a good overview plus the usual client and contact list options. All in all its a great solution for free. This system doesnt have good controls for giving client access to view how their project is coming along, but it's free. http://www.creativeprooffice.com/

GoPlan

GoPlan offers a free and paid options. Paid starts at $10/month and you get some good tools at your fingertips. Plus if you collaborate with other people a lot then you can give each other access, chat live about projects and a hosht of other tools. This is a really great system to use for collaboration, but it doesnt have time tracking tools. http://goplanapp.com/

ActiveCollab

The most pricey solution that I have come accross, but they do offer a free trail to test it out. They have time tracking, strong reporting features, custom themes, API, Email options and different module integration. Lots of features. Check out their website and try it out free. http://www.activecollab.com/

Of course you could always use Google Apps and setup a project management site for free yourself. If you know of some great web based project management software leave a comment and tell us about it.
