The future of most computer applications is the web. Period. I really believe that there will soon be a time when most of the applications we have on our computer will be based online. Of course not all of them. Some software will always work better on a desktop computer, small accounting software for freelancers and small businesses is not one of them.
I was a little hesitant when I decided to purchase Quickbooks because just like any desktop software you have to buy the upgrade in a year or so to stay up-to-date, and Quickbooks can do so much truthfully I was a bit intimidated. I'm not an accountant I'm a creative. So I decided to research what other accounting options there are, and I found some really great web based solutions that I like a lot. Some of them are free, others have a small monthly fee but all of them have a free trial period so you can try them out to see which one fits your business the best.
Some Web Accounting Suggestions
-
Here is a great web accounting app that doesn't restrict you to any number of projects, clients or invoicing on a monthly level. I like that a lot and it's only $20/month. http://www.freeagentcentral.com/

Want to get a little more detailed and track and get more in-depth with your accounting, plus integrate it all with your iPhone? Then Xero might be good for you. http://www.xero.com/ At $29/month they also give you unlimited projects, clients and invoicing but they go a little bit further than FreeAgent.

Tiered pricing, but also integrates with iPhone: http://lessaccounting.com/

Very popular among freelancers for invoicing and time tracking, and they have a free option. http://www.freshbooks.com/

Simple and clean time tracking and invoicing is the only way to describe http://invoicemachine.com/ and it works great. You can even download a widget for easy time tracking on projects. Simple.

Has tiered pricing, a free option and is mainly for invoicing: http://www.simplyinvoices.com/
Also, if you're using something that wasn't mentioned here then it would be cool to hear about it. Leave a comment and share.
