Why do so many people still think that all success on the web requires is a website? I blame it on those late night infomercials and all the scammers out there.

Have you seen that one infomercial where you purchase some instructional discs that show you how to build at least 5 websites that will continually pay you? They claim that the setup of the websites takes 15 minutes and if you can use email, you can setup these websites. Wow! What a crock of...well you know.

Bottom line: It's a business.

A successful website takes money, time, attention, detail, programming, design, testing, marketing, planning, purpose, writing, advertising, updating, changing, more testing, analysis, updates, patience...I think you get my point. A website is a business and if taken seriously and treated like a business it can produce tremendous results, but it takes work.
