Keeping track of time spent on projects is a big deal. Specially in today's economy. We should all be tracking and reviewing where we are spending our time. Do you know? Can you honestly say what tasks take you the longest, where you waist the most time and when you're the most productive? If you have employees can they tell you about their time, or can you view a report on-demand? If you can then you might be looking for a better solution, and if you're not using anything then make sure you review some of my recommendations.
A few words on my recommendations
The time-tracking software that I will be listing all have at least a 15 day free trial, and some of them offer invoicing options as well, although I am recommending these for their time-tracking solutions not accounting or invoicing. For web based accounting recommendations read my other post on "Web Based accounting solutions for freelancers and small business owners."
Web Based Time Tracking Recommendations
We have been using this for about 3 months now and it rocks! They have an invoicing feature that we're not a fan of, but we love their time tracking solution. They have a free widget for OSX and also for you PC users whichs makes tracking time so much faster. Their time tracking solution is a whopin FREE per month! They do have a paid plan based on users but its starts at $3/month, which is awesome. Don't take my word for it though. Get the details on their website and sign up for yourself. http://www.paymo.biz/
Another great time tracking solution with a ton of features is TimeFox. We used TimeFox for over four years and we loved it. They even have a widget for OSX that makes tracking even easier. Their monthly solutions start at $35/month and go up to $50/month. http://www.functionfox.com/
A time tracking solution that integrates with iPhone or iPod Touch. At only $5/month per user this is a good solution that won't break the bank. They give you a 30 day free trail, reporting, and and API so you can integrate it with accounting software or project management software. http://www.livetimer.com/
Free time tracking widgets for OSX, Vista and also Yahoo widgets. Get reporting, invoicing, different user roles and pricing starting at $12/month. They also offer time tracking integration with iPhone, Basecamp, Quickbooks, Zendesk, Twitter, Beanstalk and Wordpress Plug-In and the Harvest API for custom integration. Get more details on their website http://www.getharvest.com
Another free solution for time tracking but its pretty limited. If your looking for a no hassle track your time get in and get out then you might like this. http://www.clockingit.com/
This is just a small list of web based time tracking solutions that we have had first hand experience with. There is a lot of options out there and maybe our need more than just time tracking. Maybe what will better fit your company is a web based project management solution that also offers time tracking and possibly invoicing. Well, stay tuned because I'm writing another post for web based project management software.
